Providence
Providence is a very small city in a very small state. Perhaps because of this, it has charms few other state capitals can claim. Much of the architecture is original eighteenth century. Few cities in the world can boast so many sumptuous examples of Georgian grandeur. With such an eye for excellence embedded in its history, it's no wonder this city is home to the Rhode Island School of Design, one of the nation's finest art schools. Brown University and the State Government comprise the other leading sources of employment, culture and social life. A city infused with the silvery light from the sea, Providence hosts many an off-duty sailor from nearby Navy installations. The mix of students, sailors, artists and professionals make for a heady bar blend well worth visiting for a night or a week. Stay longer and you may never leave.
