Calfornia's state capital, Sacramento, is a low key, laid back vacation spot. Rich in history from the days of the Gold Rush, many of the old saloons, warehouses and wharves have been restored and converted into the touristy shops and restaurants. The state capitol building, which serves as the seat of government, is a luxurious structure full of finely crafted details visitors are encouraged to explore. Sutter's Fort State Historic Park is a recreation of Sacramento's original settlement and on summer weekends volunteers dress up and act out scenes from the 1850's. This is the place to be if you'd like to get a real feel for the early days of America while relaxing in the beautiful California sun.
